Rev. Karl Grant

The Rev. Karl Grant was appointed as pastor of St. Luke in July 2022. He previously served as pastor at churches in Oxford, La Grange, Cedar Grove and Kinston. Pastor Karl graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 2006 and was ordained as an Elder in the North Carolina Conference in 2009. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University and an Associate in Arts degree from Lenoir Community College. Prior to becoming a pastor, he worked at newspapers in Kinston and Newport News, Va, and at Lenoir Community College, the Global Transpark Economic Development Region and Neuse Regional Library. Pastor Karl and his wife Christine have two sons, Rollie and Ryan.

Lisa Lamm
​Lisa Lamm was born and raised in Goldsboro NC, and was a member of
St. Luke UMC in her childhood and youth. She graduated from Atlantic
Christian College (now, Barton College) with a degree in Music Education.
She was choir director and pianist for several years at Northview Baptist
Church. She is currently employed as a sales clerk with Christian Soldier
Bookstore, and is director at United Church Ministries. She re-joined St.
Luke UMC in April 2021 as pianist and became an official member of St.
Luke UMC in December 2021. She is very pleased to be back at her home
church, and loves sharing her music here with her church family.

Karen Pike
Karen Pike was born and raised in Duplin County, NC.  She has a degree in Sacred Music from The University of Mount Olive.  She enjoys spending time with loved ones, both family and friends.  Karen started working at St. Luke UMC in July 2018 and look forward to seeing how God will work through her and this church.

Sonja Emerson

Sonja Emerson is the Children’s Ministry Director of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She has been employed with the church for over 20 years. Ms. Sonja also works full time with Wayne County Public Schools as the Exceptional Children's Lead Administrator.  She has a background in Special Education and was a teacher of special needs children for 30 years prior to becoming an assistant principal and then a principal.  At St. Luke UMC, Ms. Sonja is responsible for coordinating programs and activities that support the spiritual development and growth of young children.  She believes her role as the Children's Ministry Director at the church is to tell and show that all children are created and loved by God.

Juliette Thompson


Juliette joined the staff at St. Luke United Methodist Church on October 1, 2014.  She grew up in Wilmington, and has two sons, Jerry and Jeff. After  moving around quite a bit,  she settled down in Goldsboro in 1966.

Rev. Karl Grant
